Zwei Buslenker vor ihrem Bus

"Buenos días" Zell am See

Two Spaniards on season as ski bus drivers

It is a special challenge for Postbus to find about 150 additional drivers for ski buses for the winter season. This year, for the first time, there was support from Spain, where the demand for bus drivers is lower in winter.

Spaniards drawn to the Alps for a nice seasonal job

José Manuel Martin Prieto (48) and Jesús Reguera Truco (31) drive musicians, congress delegates and tourists around the Madrid region in summer. In winter they are often without work. In Pinzgau, on the other hand, there is a lot to do. In Zell am See-Kaprun alone, ten more drivers are needed this season to bring skiers and sports enthusiasts safely to the cable cars and to winter fun. So the two Spaniards living in Madrid accepted the offer from Postbus, and this year they will be chauffeuring skiers through Zell am See, Kaprun, Saalfelden and Maria Alm.

How it all began

It all began in December 2022 with the start of the ski bus season in the Zell am See area. The first step was the training phase, during which the two drivers familiarised themselves with the local conditions. In addition to local knowledge, stops and special requirements in ski bus operation, the drivers from Spain also had to learn how to mount snow chains on a bus. This year's snow situation has not yet required this knowledge from the two. Communication is also no problem for the two. During the training phase, the Postbus colleagues from Spain were still accompanied by an interpreter, but the language hurdles are no longer a problem. Many winter tourists from different nations spend their holidays in the region. Communication is either in Spanish or English.

A job with a repetition factor

Jose Manuel Martin Prieto and Jesus Reguera Truco have summoned up the courage to enter new professional territory. To everyone's delight, they have mastered this challenge with flying colours. But the winter fairy tale does not end there, it continues. The drivers from Spain are so enthusiastic about Postbus and the Salzburg mountains that they want to be behind the wheel of the Postbus again next winter season as ski bus drivers for winter sports enthusiasts in the Zell am See area.
