The Postbus Shuttle South Carinthia was honored as an exemplary project at this year's VCÖ Mobility Award Carinthia and impressively demonstrates what innovative mobility in rural areas can look like.
Strong partner for the Koralmbahn railway
Since April 2025, the on-demand service has been providing flexible, barrier-free, and environmentally friendly mobility in four municipalities in southern Carinthia. The Postbus Shuttle plays a particularly important role as a feeder service to the new Koralmbahn railway, which will strengthen the region, which is heavily dependent on tourism, in the long term. The service was already used by over 1,500 passengers during the pilot phase, and demand has risen steadily since then: in the first five months of operation in 2025 alone, almost 4,000 passengers were transported and over 2,500 trips were made. During the summer months, the shuttle is particularly popular with holidaymakers and day trippers in the region.
A model for the region
With the award as part of the VCÖ Mobility Prize Carinthia, the project now also receives official recognition as a model for sustainable, inclusive, and future-oriented mobility. The Postbus Shuttle South Carinthia not only improves the quality of life for the population, but also facilitates climate-friendly arrival and departure for guests and shows how innovative transport solutions keep entire regions on the move.
