Postbus’s on-demand service continues to thrive in Carinthia: Three new projects were launched in early September. At the same time, the Postbus Shuttle was honored with the VCÖ Mobility Award for Carinthia. As a result, one of Austria’s largest contiguous micro-public-transport networks continues to grow.
Three New Projects Expand the Carinthian Shuttle Network
Since September 1, three additional Postbus Shuttle projects have expanded service in Carinthia:
- The Postbus Shuttle Oberes Mölltal connects the municipalities of Heiligenblut am Großglockner, Großkirchheim, Mörtschach, Winklern, Rangersdorf, and Stall.
- The Postbus Shuttle Völkermarkt serves the municipalities of Diex, Eisenkappel-Vellach, Griffen, Ruden, Sittersdorf, and Völkermarkt.
- The Postbus Shuttle LAVmobil Süd in St. Andrä, St. Georgen im Lavanttal, and St. Paul im Lavanttal improves connections to the Koralm Railway.
VCÖ Mobility Award for Innovative Mobility
This successful model has received an additional boost by being honored with the VCÖ Mobility Award for Carinthia. The award recognizes innovative mobility solutions that strengthen public transportation and offer people sustainable alternatives to private cars. The Postbus Shuttle impressively demonstrates how demand-responsive mobility improves the quality of life in rural regions while also making the use of buses and trains more attractive.
Mobility that connects
In just a few years, the Postbus Shuttle has developed into one of Austria’s largest contiguous micro-public-transport networks. Together with the State of Carinthia, the municipalities, Kärntner Linien, and other partners, a flexible service has been created that effectively complements public transportation. Mobility means far more than just getting from point A to point B: It enables people to get to work, school, doctor’s appointments, the store, or to visit family and friends, thereby strengthening social participation in rural areas.
