The Postbus Shuttle has recently been recognised with two separate awards. At the “Lower Austria Tourism Awards” (Tourismuspreis Niederösterreich), the “Mobility Semmering/Rax” (Mobilität Semmering/Rax) project triumphed in the “Sustainability” category. The high degree of innovation of the Postbus Shuttle concept was also recognised by the IÖB.
Sustainable travel in the Semmering region
The “Mobility Semmering/Rax” pilot project was developed for the summer of 2022 by the Semmering-Rax-Schneeberg Tourism Association in cooperation with various partners. The aim was to take passengers to their desired destination in the region in a flexible and environmentally friendly way. One aspect of the project was the introduction of the Postbus Shuttle, which travelled between Reichenau, Payerbach, Kreuzberg, Breitenstein and Semmering as needed. More than 8,000 people took advantage of this service over the summer.
The project triumphed in the “Sustainability” category at the Lower Austria Tourism Awards 2022 ceremony at the end of November.
Innovatively from A to B
Being awarded the IÖB Seal is another cause for joy for the team behind the Postbus Shuttle. The innovation platform IÖB (Innovationsfördernde Öffentliche Beschaffung, lit. “Innovation-enhancing public procurement”) supports the implementation of innovative procurement projects in public administration. Projects are awarded the IÖB Seal by a panel of experts who assess them on the basis of characteristics such as degree of innovation, ecological sustainability or social added value.
The panel of judges was impressed by the Postbus Shuttle, which is now entitled to bear the IÖB Seal.
