E-Bus unterwegs in der Steiermark

E-buses know no obstacles

ÖBB Postbus is testing an electric bus for its suitability for everyday use together with Verkehrsverbund Steiermark.

ÖBB Postbus - as part of Austria's largest climate protection company - is testing an electric bus for its suitability for everyday use together with Verkehrsverbund Steiermark. Even inclines as well as wintry conditions are no obstacles for it.

The fact that ÖBB Postbus is taking on a clear pioneering role in the Austrian bus market when it comes to alternative drive technologies is made clear by another test operation of an electric bus. After testing an electric bus in the chamois town of Kitzbühel, Postbus is now also testing an e-bus in Upper Styria together with Verkehrsverbund Steiermark. The fact that e-buses are not only suitable as city buses with lower daily mileage, but also cut a good figure in rural areas, is already demonstrated by our four climate heroes in Vorarlberg, which have already been in regular operation since February 2020.

E-buses also ideally suited for rural regions

Now the current test in Upper Styria also shows that e-buses know no hurdles and that ÖBB Postbus is the reliable partner for associations and municipalities. Because even on the Phyrn route and in the Gesäuse, the electric bus shows no signs of fatigue. Despite the many gradients and even under difficult conditions, winter driving conditions, cold and heating operation, the battery-powered bus manages a range of 300 km. The electric bus is being tested in the Stainach, Schladming and Liezen areas. In the process, we are gaining important experience and knowledge. One thing is already certain today: over its lifetime, each e-bus saves around 90% of CO₂ compared to a conventional diesel bus. We now hope that, in addition to our e-citybus in Judenburg, we will soon be able to use e-buses in regional operations in Styria.
